Many people harbour a quiet wish to publish a book, but are deterred by cost, uncertainty, or the feeling that such things belong to others. Crowdfunding, sensibly used, removes much of this obscurity. It allows a community of readers to say, in advance, “We wish this book to exist,” and to prove it in the most practical way.
Solaris is our attempt to make this process orderly, transparent, and fair. The rules are simple, the risks are clear, and the rewards—both intellectual and tangible— are shared between author, reader, and publisher.
Find a project that speaks to your curiosity or sympathy, and read the details of the proposed book and its returns. A modest amount of attention at this stage prevents disappointment later.
You may support a project using PayPal. A PayPal account is not required; card payments are possible without registration. Bank transfer is also available for those who prefer a more traditional method.
Once a project is confirmed, the book is produced and published. When the book is ready, the promised returns—typically the book itself, and sometimes more—are sent promptly to supporters. In this way, publication becomes a cooperative enterprise rather than a solitary gamble.
You may support a project via PayPal (credit and debit cards are accepted; no account registration is required) or by bank transfer. We recommend choosing the method that you find most convenient and least mysterious.
PayPal is a widely used online payment service. Your card information is not shared with the recipient of the payment. This separation of knowledge and power is, in this case, a virtue.
After publication, and once preparation is complete, returns are shipped to supporters. We send books both within Japan and overseas. The precise date depends on the schedule of production, but unnecessary delay is avoided.
If you encounter any trouble or uncertainty, please contact us using the inquiry form. A staff member will respond and attempt to resolve the matter in a reasonable and comprehensible way. Silence, in such cases, is not a policy.
If you have questions, ideas, or doubts that refuse to be quiet, please let us know. A short message is often the beginning of a long and fruitful book.
